Heavy rains in China proved to be more than what a bus driver could handle on his Thursday morning commute.
Instead of the normal heavy traffic on rainy days, ABC News reported that the bus driver faced a 1.8-metre deep sinkhole that opened up and swallowed his bus whole.
According to People’s Daily Online, the driver was driving in the city of Guilin in China’s Guanxi Zhuang region, when the sinkhole opened up below his bus. The sinkhole was reportedly 4 metres long and 1.8 metres deep.
Heavy rains in the region throughout the week are suspected to be the cause of the road’s collapse, but police have begun investigating into the matter to determine the exact cause.
The driver was said to be the only person in the bus at the time of the collapse and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
