Google+ app for iPad launches

Google has finally released an iPad optimized version of its Google+ app, and it's a hit with users.

The beautifully designed app puts photos at the center of the experience and encourages people to interact with content through multitouch gestures.

iPad users can pinch to expand posts within the stream for fast access to comments and use two fingers to drag a post from the stream and share it with their followers.

"The Google+ app for iPad was designed with the device in mind," said Google Vice President of Product Management, Google+, Bradley Horowitz. "Your stream styles content based on popularity, type and orientation. We've also added unique ways to interact with the app."

Google+ users are testing the new app on their tablet and posting, "FINALLY! Trying out the Google+ app for iPad and really liking it so far," "Love the new google+ app on iPad. A whole lot better than Facebook app!" and "My first impression is that it's BEAUTIFUL."

The updated app (which is actually a universal app for both iPhone and iPad) also includes new features for iPhone owners such as built-in event creation and management and the ability to start a Hangout -- Google's multi user video chat feature -- from your mobile device.

A new ringing notification feature for mobile devices lets G+'ers notify followers when they have been invited to join a Hangout on the social network.

Twitter has announced an update for its iOS and Android apps too. The latest version of Twitter for iPhone includes the addition of expanded tweets, live events, new tweet notifications, and search improvements.
