Guan Eng threatens to sue over Utusan’s front page on Bersih 4 rally

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today said he will sue Utusan Malaysia again, this time over its front page story on Bersih 4 rally over the weekend. Under the headline titled "Malulah kamu!" (Shame on you!) which was printed in red, the daily wrote "to Maria Chin Abdullah, S. Ambiga, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng and Mohamad Sabu and Bersih leaders, know that the illegal Bersih rally displayed all sorts of humiliating acts". Labeling the claims as malicious and slanderous, Lim said he will instruct his lawyers to issue legal letters to the Bahasa Malaysia daily. "It is a malicious slander. Everyone knows that I am not the organiser. I will ask my lawyer to send a notice of demand to Utusan. "Again they are finding fault... they want to create chaos in the country. Again, they are slandering.... "Utusan is dangerous to the country. Lies and slanders," the DAP secretary-general told a press conference at his Komtar office today. The story was featured on Page 4 of the newspaper among others, telling Bersih 2.0 head Maria, Ambiga, Mohamad Sabu, Kit Siang, Guan Eng and other "Bersih leaders" to feel ashamed for what had transpired throughout the rally. "Tiada apa yang boleh dibanggakan oleh penganjur Bersih berikutan kemampuan mereka mengumpul ribuan orang dalam perhimpunan haram di ibu negara pada Sabtu dan Ahad lalu. (The Bersih organiser has nothing to be proud of by their ability to assemble thousands of people at the illegal rally in the capital on Saturday and Sunday." it wrote. Utusan had also alleged that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) activities were promoted during the 34-hour rally and asked Maria if she was aware of the matter. "LGBT and unnatural sex? What is this? This has gone overboard," Lim said, showing the newspaper to the reporters present. The Bersih 4 rally last weekend was organised by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0). It was held in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, as well as major cities around the world. – September 2, 2015.
