As of now, Colorado-born Stefan Bachmann is a student at the Zurich Conservatory in Switzerland. By September, he'll be a published author, with his Victorian English fantasy, The Peculiar, being made available in hardcover and e-book formats.
HarperCollins has added the UK and Commonwealth to its remit of English-language publishing rights for The Peculiar, and Bachmann is also contributing his musical talents to the two-year project with his original classical compositions destined for The Peculiar's official soundtrack -- just as musician Josh Farrar did with another piece of young adult fiction, Rules to Rock By.
The Peculiar is set in a Victorian England that merges magic and fantasy with advanced, Steampunk-style technology and tells the tale of a half-human, half-faerie child known as Bartholemew Kettle.
Other notable young writers of recent years include Christopher Paolini (Eragon), James Valitchka (Superheroes Don't Have Dads), and TED conference speaker Adora Svitak (Yang in Disguise).
