Unlike in the movies, Singaporeans don’t find love by accidentally bumping into a stranger on the streets and having romance blossom from there.
Most Singaporeans would prefer going on a date with someone they have met through their friends, colleagues and social network, according to a survey of 612 Singapore citizens by Blackbox Research.
When asked who they would count on for dating advice, tips and recommendations, 53 per cent of respondents said they trust their close friends and families, while 1 per cent of respondents would trust a work colleague. The other 44 per cent would follow their own instincts and the remaining 1 per cent would trust a professional matchmaker.
Some Singaporeans are also turning to the net to find their true love as 46 per cent of the respondents said they have tried or are considering trying to meet a partner online. But a lot of Singaporeans are still skeptical with 54 per cent of respondents saying they would not try online dating.
Those who have attempted online dating admitted to some odd encounters as well. 21 per cent of those who have tried online dating said they met the most boring person in the world and could not get away fast enough, while 13 per cent said they met someone creepy or suspicious.
Five per cent said the person they met turned out to look different (in a bad way) from their profile photos while another five per cent said they met a person who turned out to be married.
