How to survive IT Show 2012

Are you exhausted by our never-ending IT shows? Well, too bad, because the first one of the year is landing this Thursday! If you’re determined to go or have something you must buy at the bazaar, take a gander at some survival tips below.

Don’t go to the IT Show

I’m half-jesting here, but the best way to survive the IT Show is really to just stay at home and kick back instead of squeezing with the throngs of people looking for a good deal. Let’s face it: the prices are not really so fantastic that you have to abandon your plans for a day. It’s not really that healthy either, what with people milling around you and touching display units that have been molested by countless others.

Download floor plans

Now, if you’re dead set on going – maybe you have been planning for this purchase for a while – be sure to head over to IT Show’s website and have a look at the floor plans. Use the information to help you map out your route before you actually head down to Suntec, and you can save a lot of time. This is particularly useful if you want to check out the same product at different stalls.

Go early

Now that you’ve got all you need, head down to the show early, so you can beat the crowd and get the freshest products off the shelves. Okay, we’re not dealing with fruits and vegetables here, but getting there early definitely has its advantages. For one, you can skip the queues and get your hands on display units before anyone else does. On top of that, some vendors have early bird deals for bargain hunters you can take advantage of.

Don’t hang around

Everyone wants to get the best deal for every purchase. This means countless hours of browsing stall after stall with thousands of others doing the same thing! So if you’re done with your purchase, don’t hang around and get out of the way so others can do the same. If you do want to browse around, be mindful of other people around you and everyone will have a more pleasant experience.

Bring a friend

Shopping alone is no fun! Go to the show with a friend, so you can discuss the pros and cons of every purchase before plunking down your cash. This is especially important for tech noobs who have no idea what to look out for in an IT product. Spare a thought for the sales people you meet and bring someone who speak the jargon!
