Huge fire breaks out at Tuas View Circuit; no casualties reported

A huge fire at 23 Tuas View Circuit on Thursday morning was extinguished after four hours of “intensive firefighting”, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

About 200 firefighters and 38 SCDF emergency vehicles, including 3 Unmanned Firefighting Machines, were deployed at the height of the fire, said SCDF.

One firefighter was sent to Ng Tong Fong General Hospital after sustaining heat exhaustion.

No other casualties were conveyed to hospital as a result of the blaze, added SCDF in its final update about the fire at 11:45AM.

The fire involved chemical waste and flammable materials, said SCDF. Periodic explosions could be heard as firefighters fought to contain the blaze within the affected premises.

The building was identified in media reports as ECO Special Waste Management. SCDF said the premises measuring about 200m by 200m was “fully engulfed in flames”.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Members of the public were advised to avoid the area.

In videos posted on social media, eyewitnesses recorded videos of huge plumes of smoke coming from the affected area.
