The Hyatt hotel chain has introduced a new "For kids, by kids" menu, which aims to provide a more nutritious and fresh offering for the more than three million children who stay in Hyatt hotels every year in the US, Canada and the Caribbean.
The menu, introduced on July 16, has been developed in collaboration with Partnership for a Healthy America (PHA). As part of the roll-out the hotels will offer a 3-course organic meal for children developed by chef Alice Waters. The move is part of the hotel chain's 'Food. Thoughtfully Sourced. Carefully Served' philosophy announced in May with the stated aim of promoting "healthy people, a healthy planet and healthy communities."
The new kids' menu was tested by children, including 11-year-old Haile Thomas who is holding a healthy eating campaign through her her online cooking show Kids Can Cook. The menu offers fruit and vegetables, and low-fat milk will also be available to meet the most recent U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
The menu will include :
- Breakfast: Top Your Own Taco, a whole wheat tortilla filled with scrambled eggs, cheese and fun toppings; Waffle Dipping Sticks with peanut butter, maple syrup and fruit sauces.
- Lunch: Shaken Chopped Salad with roasted chicken, vegetables, brown rice and yogurt basil dressing; Build Your Own Whole Wheat Sub Sandwich with turkey, lettuce, tomato, cheese on a whole wheat mini-sub.
- Dinner: Natural Beef grilled and served with potatoes, roasted vegetables and garden salad; Vegetable and Sesame Rice Noodles with marinated tofu, corn, green beans, basil and cherry tomatoes.
