Indonesian maid falls to her death at Marine Drive block

A 32-year-old Indonesian maid fell to her death from the 14th floor of her employer’s home at Block 63 Marine Drive in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to The Straits Times, the maid – who goes by the name Ami – was found at the foot of the block and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speaking to Yahoo! Singapore, Indonesian embassy councellor Sukmo Yuwono said that he would like the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the police to investigate how the West Javanese maid fell to her death.

He added that Ami had only just started working in her employer’s home on 9 July after arriving in Singapore earlier this month.

The Indonesia embassy will contact the maid’s family by today and will identify the body at 9am at Singapore General Hospital on Thursday before sending the body back to Indonesia, Yuwono said.

This incident comes after an Indonesian maid was found dead at the foot of a flat in Sembawang in May, and also marks the 11th case reported this year of a maid falling from a high-rise flat.
