The Interlace clinches first Urban Habitat Award
The Interlace recently added another accolade to its list.
Developed by CapitaLand Singapore and Hotel Properties, the condominium has won the inaugural Urban Habitat Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), a Chicago-based organisation.
The award is newly established this year to highlight projects with a positive contribution to the surrounding environment.
CTBUH Executive Director and 2014 awards juror Antony Wood said the 1,040-unit development shows "the real opportunity tall buildings have for creating quality urban space at height, if we can only break down our preconception of designing skyscrapers as stand-alone, unconnected icons."
Instead of vertical towers, The Interlace features an interlocking design. 31 blocks, each six stories tall, are stacked in a hexagonal arrangement around eight large-scale courtyards. A network of communal gardens and spaces is interwoven on the roofs of and in between these stacked horizontal blocks.
Wong Heang Fine, CEO of CapitaLand Singapore (Residential), said, "We set out to create iconic projects with outstanding designs that are not only within reach of those who aspire to own private residential home units, but also those who aspire to lead a unique lifestyle. The Interlace is one of such exemplary developments."
The CTBUH Awards are an independent review of new projects, judged by a panel of industry experts.
