Jakarta administration to relocate 1,192 minimarkets

Jakarta (The Jakarta Post/ANN) - The Jakarta administration has announced its intention to review the permits and relocate 1,192 minimarkets over allegations of license violations.

"The 2011's data shows that there are 1,192 minimarkets that need to be relocated", the Jakarta administration's economic bureau chief, Adi Ariantara, said as quoted by kompas.com on Friday.

He further explained that the bureau had also found some 1,868 minimarkets with restaurant licenses instead the proper permits. He added some were found that held no licenses at all.

"We will keep updating our data in the field," he said.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo's move to revoke Governor Instruction No. 115/2006 on the cancellation of minimarkets license issuance in Jakarta raised fears that it lead to a proliferation of minimarket establishments in the future.

Addressing these concerns, Adi said he was still optimistic that the city would be able to keep minimarkets in check in the future, because governor Fauzi had issued a new instruction to conduct a comprehensive review and reassessment of existing minimarket's licenses.

"We can still ensure that the city will not issue new permits to establish new minimarkets" Adi said.
