Japan's industrial output for December was revised down slightly to a 3.8 percent rise, according to the government data.
Data released by the economy, trade and industry ministry had initially shown a 4.0 percent rise for December from the previous month.
The revised figure still reversed a 2.7 percent fall in November.
The main contributors to the rise were telecommunications equipment, cars and other transport equipment, and electronic parts, the ministry said.
The government said it expects industrial output to rise 2.5 percent in January and another 1.2 percent in February.
Preliminary figures for January are expected to be released on February 29.
