Joan Chen denies conflict with Gong Li

13 Nov – Chinese-American filmmaker Joan Chen recently dismissed rumours saying that she is at odds with Chinese actress, Gong Li.

According to Mingpao News, it was previously rumoured that Gong Li may have a thin chance of winning this year's Best Leading Actress award due to the fact that Joan has been elected the chairperson of the jury at this year's Golden Horse Awards.

However, the "Shanghai Strangers" director dismissed the rumours as false, saying that she acknowledges the "Coming Home" actress as one of the best female stars in China.

"I am looking forward to meeting her at the Golden Horse," said Joan.

When asked if mainland's blacklist of Taiwan's sports movie "KANO" may affect the result, Joan said, "We will review a film to see if it impresses us. Politics will not affect our decision."

On the subject of being the jury's chairperson, Joan, who herself has won numerous Golden Horse accolades for her works including "Red Rose White Rose" and the "Home Song Stories", said that she feels honoured to be elected and will use the opportunity as a learning experience.

The 51st Golden Horse Awards will be held on 22 November 2014.
