John Woo to direct "Manhunt" remake

21 Mar – Hong Kong director John Woo will be helming the remake of Japanese action thriller, "Manhunt".

As reported on CRI News, the original 1976 Japanese film, starring the late Ken Takakura, was adapted from a novel, "Kimi yo Funnu no Kawa o Watare" by Juko Nishimura. Media Asia acquired the rights to the novel from publisher Tokuma Shoten last year.

Media Asia Chairman Peter Lam recently stated that he had contacted the director after hearing that he was a huge fan of Ken Takakura.

"I immediately gave him a call and tried to convince him to direct the movie for us," he said.

Woo admitted that he accepted the offer with no hesitation as a way of honouring the late actor, who passed away last year.

"Manhunt" tells the story of a prosecutor who sets out on a mission to clear his name after he was framed for robbery and rape.

The movie will begin shooting this year, though no details have been released about the cast at the time of writing.
