Karl Lagerfeld On Chanel's Resort 2013 Collection: 'It’s Coco Rock, Not Rococo!'

There's nothing quite like a Chanel show so it came as no surprise to see Karl Lagerfeld's catwalk offering for the Cruise 2013 show was nothing short of breath-takingly lavish. Grazia's Style Director Paula Reed was in Versailles yesterday along with the usual Chanel crew – we're talking Vanessa Paradis and Alice Dellal – to soak up the sunshine while bringing us the inside scoop direct from the front row.

Tilda Swinton and Haider Ackermann go matchy-matchy

The show was held in the plush gardens of Le Palais de Versailles, which are never normally open to the public and feature not one but THREE enormous fountains. 'It couldn’t be more special,' Sam Taylor-Wood told WWD. Tilda Swinton was a spectacle in herself, wearing a crisp white button-down shirt with wide-legged trousers under a positively regal tweed coat while sat next to Haider Ackermann. 'We are family,' she said of her designer pal. Talk about a fashion power couple.

As for the action on the catwalk, it was nothing short of opulent. Although regular Chanel catwalkers Stella Tennant and Kristen Mcmenamy were noticeably absent, Cara Delevingne worked the gravel paths with aplomb. She opened the show wearing a velvety, pale blue denim dress, with a crisp A-line skirt, which was followed by a military-inspired denim suit, poufy shorts and palazzo pants. Classic accents from full skirts and tight corsets to frills and brocade appeared on dresses but were given a kooky twist thanks to chunky brothel creepers and those candy-floss coloured cropped wigs. Modern Marie Antoinettes, eat yer heart out! 'It’s Coco rock, not rococo,' Monsieur Lagerfeld confirmed.
