Katy Perry Copies Kate Bosworth, Lana Del Rey and Camilla Belle With Wine-Red Lips

After the incredible Met Ball in New York on Monday night, we've spent the week swooning over those vampy deep red lips sported by Camilla Belle, Lana Del Rey, Kate Bosworth et al on the red carpet. Then, to really seal the trend, beauty chameleon Katy Perry sported a very similar look while out and about at the Music Biz Awards. Paired with her violet-tinged tresses, the look packed a seriously cool and high-impact punch.  Hmmm, from where we are standing, it certainly seems like this super sexy, wine coloured mouth is the beauty trend of the week and something therefore, that we should be giving a go over the weekend.

And these lovely ladies (or at least their makeup artists), all know what they're doing, because the look was a huge trend on this seasons’ summer catwalks too. (The versions at Anna Sui, Donna Karen and YSL were our personal faves).

Plus, it's undeniably true that nothing makes an entrance like well-formed red lip and this season’s version is no exception.   As makeup maestro Gucci Westman told us earlier this season “The way you wear your lips can really change people’s perception of you and this season’s deep lip trend trend is more chic, sexy, power woman than S&M bondage girl,’ explains make-up artist Gucci Westman. ‘So a stained, lacquer-look lip is the way to go and the most modern way to work the trend.’

For a graphic, understated take on the trend use a forefinger to delicately pat colour onto the lip, adding a slightly lighter shade to the inner section of the lip for added volume.  Want to go the whole way? Begin by drawing the outline of the lip with a red lip-liner, before painting on the hue of your choice with a delicate brush. A slick of clear lacquer guarantees a perfectly polished finish.

Go on, we dare you!
