Korea to dispatch police officer to Philippines

Seoul (The Korea Herald/ANN) - Korea's National Police Agency plans to deploy an officer overseas to help with cases involving Korean expatriates, officials said Wednesday.

The agency is coordinating with the Philippine National Police to send a Korean officer to the Philippines to help with investigations. The Philippines is one of the most popular tourist destinations for Koreans and has a sizable number of Korean expatriates. According to the NPA, the Philippines is also a popular haven for Korean fugitives.

"We are aggressively seeking a measure to send one of our officers to their 'Korean Desk' and oversee all cases involving Korean expats," said one NPA Foreign Affairs Bureau official who declined to be named.

The Korean Desk was set up by the Philippine National Police to respond to crimes concerning Koreans within the country.

This will mark the first time a Korean officer has been dispatched to another country's agency.

Both agencies are processing the deployment after NPA Commissioner General Cho Hyun-oh met with PNP Director General Nicanor Bartolome in May and discussed the plan.

The senior inspector or superintendent deployed to the county will be responsible for the safety of Korean expatriates and tourists in the country and the arrest Korean fugitives.

Outside of the Philippines, officials are also looking to send officers to 12 foreign cities including Atlanta, Frankfurt, Dubai and Fukuoka.

According to government data, as of 2010 there were 96,000 Korean expatriates residing in the Philippines.

"There have been calls for increased protection by police as the number of fugitives and incidents involving Korean expatriates rise," said one police official.

I wish they'd send teachers to inform their expats how to behave as guests in a foreign country..... They are just too darned rude & arrogant!

Mabait or nagbabait baitan. I live where koreans are abundant. i can say 90% of them here are totally arrogant and rude. They should be taught how to behave properly. and excuse to them, this isn't their country. they should learn how to follow our rules and not theirs. tayo naman mga pinoy kasi nadadaan sa pera kaya akala nila mukha tayong pera.
and i don't like him or them going here, it only shows na di natin kayang ayusin ang sarili nating security, we aren't stupid. Kung ganun lang, magpadala din tayo sa kanila ng officers who will watch over and protect our fellow pinoys in their country that's been badly treated by these korean nationals.
Pasalamat lang sila sa K-pop, kaya mabait trato natin sa kanila.

I think this the right thing to do, hindi lang Korean police, pati US police. Kasi I've seen a lot of injustices done to foreigners here in the PH (and to Filipinos too). For example, in Malate one time, there were foreigners riding a taxi. A policeman asked the driver to stop; then, the policeman asked the foreigners where their passports are. When the foreigners told the police that its not with them coz they left it in the hotel since its safer that way, the police told them its illegal not to bring their passports with them and asked them for money as penalty. Tapos, in Baguio naman, there was one time na a Korean's cellphone was snatched in Session Road. The Korean chased after the snatcher: when he caught him, he brought him to the police station, but the policeman said, "It's okay, let him go.. He's poor that's why he did it."

why would somebody here even think na it's okay for korea to dispatch a police officer sa Pinas to oversee korean expat cases, tourist etc? Accdg to article "He will be responsible for the safety of the expats , tourists and the arrest of korean fugitive" They have an embassy in the Philippines,,if an expat or a tourist feels he needs assistance and not properly dealt with ,, they can go to their respective embassies.. As for the fugitives,, it should serve as a slap in the face for the Philippine National Police,, sending an officer to have an office in the Philippines from another country to handle their affairs means they think of you as incompetent fools,, It's like going to somebody's house for a visit but you will not eat all the food served at you instead opted to bring your own with the utensils etc..
