New Korean TV drama “Blade Man” is set in the video game industry

If you’re reading this website, you’re obviously interested in video games. But there’s also at least a decent chance that you’re interested in Korean TV dramas, which have become popular the world over. And one of the country’s newest television offerings actually combines these two things.

Blade Man, which began airing last week on KBS2, is a Korean drama that focuses on the relationship between Joo Hong-bin (played by Lee Dong-wook), a wealthy man whose anger manifests itself by sprouting blades out of his body, and Son Se-dong (played by Shin Se-kyung) tries to help him heal.

What’s interesting is that both characters on the show work in the games industry, and in fact the show itself reportedly received major investment from Korean game company CJ Netmarble in the hopes that it will help promote the games industry and Netmarble’s domestic name recognition. The parts of the show that take place at the characters’ work were even filmed on location at Netmarble’s offices.

There have been many Korean drama programs about doctors, lawyers, and teachers, but Blade Man is reportedly the first-ever Korean TV soap to focus on people in the games industry.

It’s doubtful you can find Blade Man anywhere with English subtitles just yet, but if you’re into K-drama and want an inside look at the Korean gaming industry at the same time, the show is definitely something to keep an eye out for!
