Web browsers are faster, more powerful and more useful to web users, but these days the best browsers are disappearing into the background of the web experience.
Wrapped in a sleek new interface, Firefox 4 lets users customize their web browsing experience.
"With features like App Tabs and Panorama, Firefox makes it easier and more efficient to navigate the Web. Firefox delivers industry-leading privacy and security features like Do Not Track and Content Security Policy to give users control over their personal data and protect them online," said Firefox maker Mozilla in a March 22 blog post introducing the updated browser.
Firefox 4 is between two and six times faster than previous releases, said Mozilla, and supports modern Web technologies such as HTML5.
Last week during the SXSW Interactive conference Microsoft took the wraps off a major new version of its web browser, Internet Explorer 9 (IE9).
Microsoft too emphasized the importance of putting content at the center of the web experience.
"What people care about on the Web is their sites, not their browser, said Ryan Gavin, Senior director, Windows Internet Explorer, at Microsoft. "That's why Internet Explorer 9 is about making those sites shine."
Google recently celebrated the second birthday of its internet browser Chrome. Version 10 of the browser was released on March 8 and touted speed improvements, enhanced protection against malicious web pages a new easier-to-navigate settings interface.
So which browser is best for you?
PC Mag explains how the three big browsers differ from each other "in the major categories you should care about: Interface, Speed, Security and Privacy, Standards Support and Extra features," in an article that might help you choose: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2382108,00.asp
