Lee Byung-hun's Comeback

Lee Byung-hun's Comeback

15 Nov – One of Korea's most popular actors, Lee Byung-hun, is set to make his comeback in the Korean entertainment industry next year with a role in the historical movie, "I Am the King of Chosun", according to soompi.

Rumours have been surfacing about his involvement in the movie, which is now officially confirmed. The first producer called in for the movie was Kang Woo-suk of the "Public Enemy" fame but he has been since replaced by producer Chu Chang-min, whose directorial credits include "I Love You" in 2010.

"I Am the King of Chosun" is based on the movie "The Prince and the Pauper" and tells the story of the 15th king of Chosun, Kwang Hae Goon, and his peasant doppelganger.

Production companies CJ E&M and Realize Pictures will be responsible for the project's production.

Currently, Lee Byung-hun is busy with the shooting of the sequel, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" in Hollywood. Producer Chu Chang-min is said to have visited America in the beginning of November to discuss the project with Lee Byung-hun.

However, the role offered to him in "I Am the King of Chosun" was not one that he readily accepted. The reason was the 41-year-old had gotten another offer for another Hollywood production.

Eventually, he decided to take the role and is set to fly back to Korea in January 2012. This would be his first historical movie since his debut, as well as the first movie in which he has to play two main roles, which are the roles of the king and his doppelganger.

The cast for the other characters have not yet been confirmed.
