Maid kills Singaporean widow after being called stupid

To hurt an 87 year old person is definitely wrong. To kill, is even worst. But to hurl degrading remarks and abusive language to someone is not right either. A person will be respected, regardless of their profession or country of origin, based on their character and attitude nothing else. Remember the maid who received more than $6million from her deceased employer? She must have been a good employee to have been appreciated to such extent. Employer should understand that maids are just human and have the tendency to err. Learning capability differs from one person to another. On the other hand, maids should learn to control their temper and protest if she may. When the opportunity arises, make a phone call to their agent and/or relevant authorities or their embassies. This is a sad story of what impulsive actions and reactions could cause. Agents should equip these maids will all the relevant information and ensure that they wrote them down. This will prevent another such case from recurring.

to those who employ maids, treat them humanely. without maids, you can't go to work and have the lifestyle you live.

Killing is wrong. But do respect maids... they're women too, just like our mothers.

i think yahoo singapore should review there headline news 10 times before they should post it in the web.... The writer of this article is arrogant. He really emphasize that most maids are in the Philippines and also how wealthy Singapore is! This s the lesson for those who don't know how to respect other people and think they are superior than any other race.

To all the racist there, Singapore ain't the one that you have in mind, rich country arrogant people! For this, it happens everywhere throughout the world. Maybe your luck meeting those but not all are like that. I met nice and bad US dudes, Filipinos, Hongkongers, PRC people and etc. It depends on individual and their personality. Please do not make a sweeping statement saying one particular race is like that. It's an unfair statement!!!

Its either indo maids come to s'pore to work get pregnant,kill employer or get killed by bangla. Bottomline, not worth it! I think there must be a hotline for maid if they are not happy working with their employer, they should call the hotline. This will prevent them from taking the law into their own hands. They definitely dont dare to tell their employer that they are not happy working with them or when they are being abused, they dont know who to talk to and get help from.In order to save lifes of this pple who are basically ignorant, I think the hotline should be implemented asap as it can save many lives in the future......Its normal I guess when pple are being abused or pushed around, pple will lose their mind and when they are desperate, they will do the things that normal state of mind wont do. Can some indo officials or indo citizens read my comments and go tell ur government to do something about it in order to save ur own countrywomen lives from the gallows/the threat of death in s'pore. For heaven sake! they just want to earn a living in s'pore and get life sentence or 20 years in jail just after a week of employment. Is it worthy???!! Well...Sometimes the problems dosen't lies on the Maids but the employers as well!! Yes! Althought some maids is very problematic but we as an employer should also know how to respect them and understand their feelings and not just using physical force or scolding them!, maids came from poor country and from poor family without much educations, they might not know as much as we are but do we have to treat them like slaves, without giving them enough food or rest?!

No matter what, I would still say that Maid are still being Well Treated in Singapore!!

Can't treat people like they're not human without repercussions. Some of these old-timers are really difficult people - just one of those 'ngiau' personalities. These are the same types that drive daughter in laws and tenants nuts because of their nit-picking anal ways.

A good example to learn by both maid and employer. Respect each other to have a good relationship.

anybody for that matter could and would be capable of such a temperament @ that age (87) either because of medicinal effect or geriatric mental imbalance. This could be the predisposing reasons of the consequential mean attitude of the elder woman, and should be checked and not been tolerated by the rest of the family. Also, there was a seemingly "racist" undertone on the part of this writer to input irrelevant facts not meaningful in the resolution of the case. Likewise, guilty of irresponsibility..

sad thing to happen...but truth is majority of Singaporeans are so demanding, just because they pay salary(meagre by the way) to their maid they think they own them like slaves, wake up la to all those maid hirer who are so mean to fellow human beings....cheers

Er...I thought this is outright murder. We don't go around killing people just being called stupid otherwise most of my school teachers would have been killed.

It's about time that our ministers stop wasting public resources in unnecessary bickering and look into serious matters such as law reform to bring about true justice for the people and our society.
