Bodies found in Singapore and Kallang rivers in two separate cases

A body was found in the Singapore River and another in the Kallang River on Thursday afternoon.

The police have classified each of the two separate cases as “unnatural death”.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the case of a body in the Singapore River near 20 Upper Circular Road at 3:53pm, according to an SCDF spokesman.

He also said that SCDF sent a fire engine and an ambulance to the location, after which the body was manually retrieved using a rescue line.




The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the police, the dead man was in his 60s.

The case has been classified as “unnatural death” and investigations are ongoing, they said.

According to an eyewitness, the body was found in the river facing JUMBO Seafood Restaurant.

The eyewitness, Ahmad Jihadi, 25, who works at a nearby club as a sound engineer, said that the body appeared to be that of an old Chinese man wearing long black pants and a light brown shirt unbuttoned at the chest.

SCDF were also alerted at about 4:08pm to the presence of a man’s body in the Kallang River, near the Kallang Water Sports Centre, said a spokesman. He added that the body was retrieved with the assistance of the Public Utilities Board (PUB).

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The police were alerted to the case after receiving a call at 3:46pm requesting for assistance at the river along Nicoll Highway near Golden Mile Complex.

Upon police arrival, a man was found motionless at the said location.
