Mariah Carey says that she was “very moved” by Whitney Houston’s home going service on Saturday.
The Vision of Love singer said they became great friends after performing a duet together on the song When You Believe in 1998.
The mother-of-two told Good Morning America that she was still finding it difficult to speak about the music icon’s passing.
“I’m almost incapable of talking about this still,” the 41-year-old said. “It’s very heavy emotionally.”
But Mariah said she was pleased with how the funeral service went.
“It was gorgeous,” she said. “Such a class act. The way she went out and the way the family dealt with it, I was very moved.”
Mariah added that despite them being two of the biggest divas of their generation, they shared a special bond.
“It was great, and I don’t think people could ever understand our relationship,” she shared. “There was always this supposed rivalry in the beginning and then we did the duet and we became friends. I saw her toward the end. I loved her. We all loved her… May she rest in peace.”
Mariah was part of a host of other stars including Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder and Kevin Costner that attended the service in Newark, New Jersey over the weekend.
Whitney died on February 11 aged 48 in the bathroom of the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles leaving behind her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown and mother Cissy Houston. Her cause of death is not yet known.
