MaxMara revived “1920s atmospheres and Bauhaus rationalism” at Milan Fashion Week today.
The label’s mission statement said the Fall/Winter 12 offering was aimed at “the strong, determined woman, like Emmeline Pankhurst and the suffragettes”.
Fashion experts were certainly impressed by military inspired lines, luxury materials and surprisingly feminine elements in the form of glimmering silver Mary Jane shoes.
Mannish full-length coat gave a nod to the World War I era but were softened by the use of fabrics like cashmere, camel hair and fur swathes.
Military caps with alligator peaks added to the army feel.
The fashion house also showed its softer side with black and white striped jersey tops, silky flared trousers and cable knits.
“Full of easy separates and with every piece promising the highest, softest quality, MaxMara eased us into day two of Milan Fashion Week nicely,” Vogue.co.uk reported.
Tomorrow is set to be a big day in Milan with fashion giants Moschino, Cavalli and Versace all showing.
