In the mood of John Richmond: "Seeing David Bowie on TV when I was 12 influenced my career"

On the occasion of Milan Fashion Week (September 19-25), Relaxnews got a peek into the inspiration behind the designs for the label John Richmond. The line's new Spring-Summer 2013 collection will hit the runway September 19. A good occasion for fashion fans to find out more about the artistic tastes and influences of English-born, Milan-based John Richmond.

Relaxnews: Which singer or actress best embodies your Spring/Summer 2013 collection and why?

John Richmond: The upcoming collection has some sort of Retro vs Modern feel, so in many ways it fits the look of Lana Del Ray, who embodies perfectly this sort of spirit.

R: What do you think will be the essential fashion accessory for Spring/Summer 2013 and why?

JR: More than an accessory I think a must-have will be a particular color, only I can't tell you which one until "show time"!

R: Which song do you associate with your latest collection? Why ?

JR: Definitely Donna Summer's "Love to love you", it's  very sad that she died recently, been playing her a lot since then and it has clearly influenced my collection quite a lot.

R: Where is the most unexpected place you went to find inspiration for your Spring/Summer 2013 designs?

JR: Nothing that unusual or unexpected: I always get inspired by music, books, art in every shape and urban culture.

RN : What is the biggest backstage disaster you have ever been confronted with before a fashion show?.

JR: I think it was when we had do to a show in 40 degrees Celsius in a transparent tent at midday with no air conditioning!

R: Which event in your personal life has had the biggest impact on your career as a fashion designer?

JR: Again it's about music, seeing David Bowie on TV when I was 12 years old influenced my career and my view of life and fashion.
