Mothers with young kids most active on Facebook: study

Mothers with children under the age of five are more active on social media, particularly Facebook, than other people, a new study says.

Information-service company Experian's new US-based study finds that moms are also twice as likely to post comments on Twitter and Facebook as the general public, Mashable reports.

Experian's data was collected from a study called the Simmons National Consumer Study, which examined the online and offline habits of 25,000 US adults. Experian also aggregated data from Hitwise, which measures website traffic.

"Moms with young kids represent a highly active and digitally sophisticated segment of consumers who are eager to connect with brands and share their experiences through multiple platforms," said Bill Tancer, Experian's general manager of global research.

The study also found that mothers with young kids are generally more likely to shop using mobile devices -- and most prefer doing so using an iPad.
