Following an alleged abuse incident involving a teacher at My First Skool, NTUC First Campus is taking new measures to provide reassurance to parents of the students at its childcare arm.

The education group said in a statement Thursday it is setting up an independent review panel for reported cases of injury, accident or mishandling to encourage parents to reach out to My First Skool principals with concerns.

The group will also beef up resources and support for teachers who manage classes that require more attention.

The review panel will review and assess "complex cases" that are reported through centre principals and staff stationed at its headquarters, NTUC First Campus said.

"This measure gives parents greater assurance of transparency and accountability to the incident review process," it said.

My First Skool staff were also reminded to report questionable practices to their supervisors, and where they are not adequately dealt with, to escalate them further to the board audit committee.

Separately, the centre in Toa Payoh where the abuse incident took place had its licence tenure reduced from two years to six months, and was issued a warning letter from the Early Childhood Development Agency on Wednesday.

Responding to it, NTUC First Campus CEO Chan Tee Seng noted the new measures that have since been implemented.

"Our team… (is) strongly committed to strengthening the trust with the parents at our centres in the months ahead," he said. "We look forward to their support, patience, and partnership, so that we can achieve our common goal for the children under our care."
