Nike+ campaign turns your runs into cash

If you're a dedicated runner, you can now trade in your mileage for Nike goods using a new Facebook campaign launched by Nike Mexico.

To participate, users need to download the Nike+ app to track running distance, time, and pace. Then log onto a Facebook app, Subasta de Kilometros, to start bidding on items in a weekly auction. "For now the Subasta de Kilometros app and challenge is only being held in Mexico, but we can see the idea of gaming within fitness apps being taken even further by other brands in other countries as an extra incentive to get people moving and keep them motivated," writes blogger Shiny Shiny.

Items available include Nike apparel, Nike+ equipment, and footwear. Essentially, the number of kilometers you've run in the last week equals the amount of money you can spend in the auction. Each of the items in the auction has a minimum kilometer price tag, and whoever bids the highest number of kilometers wins the item.

A similar app is Nexercise, which lets you rack up credits for physical activity in exchange for real-world benefits, including gift cards, coupons, and vitamin supplements.
