Who says there’s no free lunch in the world?

On 28 June, Singaporeans will be able to enjoy Aussie-style barbecues free-of-charge at 22 sites across the city-state.

Jem Shopping Mall, Bishan Park and Block 516 Tampines Central 7 are some of the sites involved. Details about the event at each site will be done by local organisers such as the Community Centre (CC) or Regional Centre (RC) of each location.

There will be 500 Australian volunteers at the grill at these sites, serving 10,000 beef and lamb steaks, which weigh 1,000kg in total, according to a Today report.

This is part of the Australian High Commission’s project to mark Singapore’s Golden Jubilee and is also the last part of Australia’s 50 Bridges art and community programme to celebrate SG50.

Australia in Singapore said in a Facebook post that the volunteers have all been trained and prepared for the event next Sunday.

Previous initiatives by the group include the four koalas gifted to Singapore, as well as the Snuff Puppets that trawled the streets back in May.
