NSman suffers cardiac arrest after IPPT run

An operationally-ready national serviceman suffered cardiac arrest after finishing his Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) 2.4km run on Monday at Selarang camp.

Gan Theng Kiong, 34, had no prior medical history or existing condition, said the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday in a statement about the incident.

Gan was attended to by a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) medic on-site at 9:20am. CPR was performed on him at Selarang Camp Medical Centre and an SAF ambulance then brought Gan to Changi General Hopsital( CGH). Efforts to revive him continued en route, Mindef said.

The NSman arrived at CGH at 9:50am and underwent an emergency procedure. He is currently still in CGH in the intensive care unit.

Mindef also said that the SAF is currently providing support for Gan's family.
