The NYC Ballet goes crazy for fashion this fall

The New York City Ballet has enlisted the help of five of fashion's biggest names for its fall Gala show.

Sarah Burton (creative director of Alexander McQueen), Mary Katrantzou, Thom Browne, Carolina Herrera and Valentino Garavani have all designed costumes for the NYC Ballet's Third Annual Fashion Gala.

Italian fashion legened Valentino Garavani worked on the costumes for the performance of Christopher Wheeldon's 2012 piece "This Bitter Earth" and Peter Martins' 2001 piece "Morgen" features costumes designed by Carolina Herrera.

Meanwhile, the event on September 23 at Lincoln Center will also feature a trio of world premieres: a new work by Troy Schumacher with clothing by New York City-based designer Thom Browne and a piece by Liam Scarlett that has costumes designed by Sarah Burton plus a new ballet by Justin Peck with Burton's fellow Londoner Mary Katrantzou dressing the dancers.

The evening has been organized by actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who is also Vice-Chair of the NYCB Board of Directors. If you miss the gala evening all five ballets will also be performed on Thursday, October 2, Tuesday, October 7, Thursday, October 9 and Saturday, October 11.
