Bridge demolition video makes spectacular viewing

Spectacular footage showing a 1,584-ft-long bridge being demolished with explosives has surfaced on the web.

Following a series of controlled blasts, the 83-year-old structure linking Ohio and West Virginia was successfully brought down using 70kg of explosives in just a few seconds on Tuesday.

The explosives were strategically placed in 136 places on the bridge.

Ohio River’s Fort Steuben Bridge closed in 2009. It was destroyed after local safety officials noticed the bridge was significantly deteriorating.

The video, captured by local authorities in Steubenville, Ohio, was slowed down to capture the momentous event.

"Bridge to nowhere felled by blast," so which state is nowhere, Ohio or West Virginia?

There is a song that starts: "Saturday night in Toledo Ohio is like being nowhere at all". So Ohio is probably nowhere or it could be that the song is likening Toledo to West Virginia in which case that might be nowhere.....

So an 83 yr old bridge is dangerous, funny how we have bridges hundreds of years old and they are still standing i.e the brick railway bridge over the thames @maidenhead still taking 125 mph trains courtesy of the brilliant I K Brunel

I hope they've planned for an alternative river crossing.
Our Home Office would demolish the bridge and then ask for rebuild tenders next year - it would be a private toll bridge.

They should've asked if anyone in Hollywood wanted to come and film this for a movie?
