Orbitz has announced the launch of a new special hotel rate for travelers who book their trips using its mobile site.
The online travel agent said December 12 that its new Mobile Steals deals would offer mobile-only discounts of up to 50 percent, accessible using the brand's new travel booking tools.
Orbitz's new mobile booking site was also relaunched this week, complete with swiping gestures to view photos, traveler reviews and the ability to search for a hotel in the geographic proximity.
Another feature, which the brand claims is a first, is the ability to book whole vacation packages to see combined airline and hotel savings.
The roll-out of deals for mobile devices could prove a significant boost for Orbitz's mobile websites, although they are also available for customers using the iPad, iPhone and Android apps -- unsurprisingly, the brand says that 65 percent of its hotel reservations made through mobile channels are for same-day bookings.
Last week, key Orbitz rival Expedia rolled out its new Expedia Hotels app, designed for iPad and Android tablets.
The new app claims to allow travelers to book their hotel in four taps from the home screen, although with high-resolution hotel photos and over 130,000 hotels listed, the company concedes that some users are likely to spend longer on making their choices.
