I paid for wedding, Zahid’s in-law says to clear deputy prime minister

The wedding reception of Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's son in Jakarta was not paid for by the deputy prime minister, his new in-laws said following question about the timing of the celebration, which coincided with his official trip to Indonesia. The Star reported Datuk Seri Chairul Anhar saying that he paid for the reception held on September 19 and the date was to cater to Zahid's busy work schedule during his official visit to Indonesia from September 18 to 21. Chairul also said that the reception at Ritz Carlton Jakarta was for his daughter, while the reception for Zahid's son was held in Kuala Lumpur on September 27. “As a businessman for 20 years, I have many business partners in Malaysia and Indonesia. All the guests who came from Indonesia and Malaysia were invited by me. “Again I would like to reiterate that the event is from the bride’s side and not my in-law’s reception," Chairul was quoted saying by The Star. He also said people should not slander his in-law, adding that he would pray to God to forgive them, The Star added. Chairul is president of Indonesian Diaspora Network Chapter Malaysia. Zahid's trip to Indonesia was questioned by Umno blogger Shahbudin Husin, who asked why the wedding reception and his official visit coincided. It led to the deputy prime minister denying that he had spent any money on his son's wedding. Shahbudin was also questioned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission over his blog post and his intention in writing it. The blogger said he was investigated under the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998, which makes it an offence to publish indecent, obscene, false, menacing, or offensive materials to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person. – October 3, 2015.
