Palanivel announces new state liaison chiefs line-up

MIC rejects hudud, says Palanivel – Bernama

MIC president Datuk G.Palanivel today announced more changes in the party's leadership line-up despite facing internal pressure from some factions with regards to the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) call for the party to hold fresh polls.

Rival factions in the party have in recent weeks battled to maintain their grip on the ethnic Indian party, which is a member of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.

Fighting within MIC intensified after Palanivel, in a move to consolidate his grip, had earlier replaced secretary-general Prakash Rao with loyalist Kumar Aaman, and dropped former loyalists Tan Sri K.S.Nijhar, Datuk R.Ramanan, as well as Datuk Sri S.Vell Paari, who is the son of former party president and trustee Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu.

In a statement, he named Tan Sri Ramasamy Muthusamy to replace him as the chairman of the Perak State Liaison Committee.

He also named Datuk Ganesan Arumugam as the new Negri Sembilan State Liaison Committee chief, taking over from Datuk S. Sothinathan.

Datuk Rajoo Vyraperumal, he added, will be the new Federal Territory State Liaison Committee chairman replacing Datuk M. Saravanan.

Palanivel said Rajoo's position as the Federal Territory State Liaison Committee deputy chairman will be taken over by V.Nedunchelian.

He also appointed Jacob Samuel as the new Selangor State Liaison Committee secretary replacing K.Parthiban.

He said there will also be changes within the respectives State Liaison Committees to be announced by the State Liaison Committees chairmen.

These appointments came a day after Palanivel said the meeting of 90 MIC division heads chaired by party deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday was illegal.

He reportedly said that the meeting had contravened the party's constitution and any decision passed would also be considered "null and void".

He pointed out that he was contemplating whether to take stern action against those who attended the meeting and would be pursuing the MIC re-election matter with the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

On December 5, the RoS had ordered MIC to hold fresh elections for the three vice-president posts and 23 Central Working Committee seats within 90 days after finding irregularities in the elections held during the 68th MIC annual general meeting on Nov 30, 2013. – January 27, 2015.
