Phoebe Philo Is Pregnant, NO Celine Catwalk Show for Autumn / Winter 2012!

Models present creations by British designer Phoebe Philo for Celine during the Spring/Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection show

    Celine's Spring/Summer 2012 ready-to-wear catwalk show

When you're head of one of the most successful fashion houses, you can do what you want. Yes, Phoebe Philo, Celine's creative director, is taking the season off. Simple as that! She's pregnant with her third child and has decided a more low-key and intimate showroom presentation at Celine's HQ in Paris is best, rather than a full-on catwalk show as in past seasons. It's like Karl Lagerfeld going on holiday during couture — kind of mad but utterly genius all at once.

'A runway show is a very demanding and personal engagement for a creative director,' Marco Gobbetti, chief executive officer at Celine, told WWD. 'The objective is to simplify.'

Philo has turned around Celine in just a few short years and made it one of the most coveted labels with editors, celebs and the rest. Perhaps now, she can turn around the perception that women in fashion need to sacrifice everything to get ahead? Maybe we don't. Maybe we can finally have it all… Of course, there are editors and designers who manage to juggle family and fashion already, but most try to schedule labour and big bumps as far away from fashion week as possible!

While the golden circle of editors and buyers will get to see the collection up close on March 4th during Paris Fashion Week, there will certainly be a whole lot of disappointed bedroom spectators. So here's some food for thought, our predictions of what we'll see for Autumn / Winter 2012...

    • Printed tunics
    • Jersey wrap dress
    • Bejewelled belly belts*
    • Super-stretch jeans
    • Draped cashmere cardigans
    • Lots of flats

Maybe, maybe not. Somehow we reckon Phoebe will be a stylish beacon of hope for pregnant women everywhere.
