S’pore poly students, Carousell is bringing you a FREE ice cream day! But there’s a catch.

Singapore Polytechnic students, fret not if you’ve missed Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day recently. Carousell, Singapore’s very own mobile marketplace app, is bringing Free Ice Cream Day to you instead.

However, there is only enough ice cream for one school though. So, students must compete against the 4 other polytechnics to get the most participants in Carousell Ice Cream Wars that begins today, 21 April 2014.

School with the most participants wins the Free Ice Cream Day with thousands of FREE Jwel ice cream to share. How does it work?

Simply go to carousell.co/icecreamwars, sign up for or log in with your Carousell account, and verify your school email address, and you are participating in the competition.

The champions’ Free Ice Cream Day will see thousands of premium Jwel Ice Cream sponsored by F&N Creameries delivered to the winning campus and distributed for free.

Being students once ourselves, we do miss hanging out with friends after a long day of lessons. We believe that a competition like this will bond schoolmates closer together and instill a sense of camaraderie in them by coming together to win this for their school,” shared Marcus Tan, cofounder of Carousell.

Taking a chapter out of Dropbox’s Space Race

The Ice Cream Day by Carousell reminded us of the Dropbox Space Race at the end of 2012, arguably one of its most brilliant marketing campaigns ever.

The idea was very simple. Students who sign up for a Dropbox account using their university e-mail account get an initial 3GB of space free, and earn points for their university at the same time. If enough students join and the University meets a certain quota of points, every student who signs up gets up to 25GB of cloud storage, enough to hold hours of video files, free for two years. Of course, NUS has emerged second place, and NTU emerged fourth place in the global leaderboard ranking.

The campaign by Dropbox showed that Singaporeans have a certain level of pride and would most probably be receptive towards campaign like this. In this social media age, it is also very easy for campaigns like this to go viral, and we wouldn’t be surprised if our Facebook newsfeed are flooded with news of Singapore polytechnic students asking their friends to join the Carousell Free Ice Cream Day campaign.
