Primary School Teacher Sings Duet With Jessie J Through App, Gets Over 280K Views

If you’re a singer or simply a great music fan, you would have heard about Smule’s Sing! Karaoke app, an app that helps you record your singing voice and collaborate with singers from around the world. As part of the promotional efforts for Pitch Perfect 2, Jessie J released a video of herself singing her hit from the movie, Flashlight, and encouraged people to sing along with her in a duet for the stars.
One such man in Singapore, a primary school teacher named Fairus Adam, released his “duet” with Jessie J. Within a few days, the video went viral: it currently has over 280,000 views, and over 8,000 shares on Facebook.
Since then, Fairus’s wall has been filled with comments from people gushing over his great singing skills, and encouraging him to pursue a job in the music industry.

According to Fairus, he’s been singing since he was a child. He started at the age of 9-10 years old when his father bought a karaoke system, and has since gone on to perform at school events, and even came in Top 5 in SURIA Mediacorp’s reality singing competition “Angugerah’ in 2003. He then found the app in 2013, and he’s been using it ever since.
If you can’t get enough of Fairus’s beautiful singing voice, he has also released a single entitled ‘Keep Running‘, which was released on iTunes. The single was part of a prize for winning The Ultimate Voice 2012, a competition held by SAFRA and HarkMusic.

The Smule Sing! Karaoke app has had over 10,000 downloads on the Google Play store, and the Smule community is said to be the closest thing we have to a social network for making music — which, as reported in 2013, was 125 million strong.
This might be the first time that someone singing on the app has made it big in Singapore, but it hopefully won’t be the last.
