Taipei (The China Post/ANN) - Taipei police have arrested a man in the Zhongshan District for armed robbery. The man allegedly spotted a couple withdrawing money from a nearby ATM, followed them into a wedding photography studio, and threatened them with a fruit knife before committing the robbery within the store.
According to police reports, the couple had an appointment to take their wedding pictures at 6 a.m. at one of the many wedding boutiques along Zhongshan north road. Surveillance footage showed the suspect surnamed Huang shadowing the couple after they withdrew money from a nearby ATM.
Huang allegedly followed the couple into the store and cornered them, as well as a store employee, into a little room before wielding the fruit knife. After the man cleared out the soon-to-be-bride's purse, the quick-thinking store clerk opened a hidden backdoor and the three victims were able to flee their robber and report the case to the police.
The suspect was still in the store when police arrived. He appeared disoriented when officers arrested him and could not recall the reason for his actions, which local police suspected was caused by tranquilizers later found in his system. Using the videotape and eyewitness reports as evidence, police were able to charge Huang with armed robbery and send him to the prosecutor's office.
