'Rambo: The Video Game' trailer is collage of movie moments

Here's something a little odd: a trailer for a tie-in video game that is comprised entirely of footage from its movie counterparts and nothing from the game itself. It's Rambo: The Video Game.

If it were a short commercial for a Rambo movie box set, it'd certainly be an effective one, compressing and presenting quintessential Rambo moments of resolve, revenge, and bloodthirsty rage metered out by means of high-caliber machine gun and manly grunting.

But as a video game trailer, can it hope to be as sturdy, without so much as a glimpse at the tie-in title that's currently in development?

Along with the trailer come three images, which at least give an idea of the tone that Rambo: The Video Game is aiming for.

Entitled 'Hope', 'Soviet Base' and 'Village', the three panoramic views provide us with explosions, motion blur, searchlights and cop cars. Try using them as the basis for a round of 'I Spy' or 'Where's Rambo?'

Rambo actor Sylvester Stallone's likeness is no stranger to video gaming, having been associated with four previous Rambo games and five Rocky titles already, plus versions of Cliffhanger and Demolition Man -- although unofficial 2012 browser game and fan homage Abobo's Big Adventure is arguably his finest moment in digital interactive entertainment to date.

Another Stallone movie tie-in, The Expendables 2: The Video Game, made a July 31 debut and early reviews published by Kotaku and Eurogamer intimated that it was dull beyond belief if not an excrutiatingly painful experience -- hopefully, one that's at least partially redeemed by its big screen brother's August 17 entrance.
