'Retro City Rampage' trailer rips on everything from GTA to Goomba-stomping Mario

Offering authenticism and parody packed within each and every pixel, Retro City Rampage arrives on PC, PlayStation 3 and Vita from October 9 and the launch trailer makes it easy to see why it's been so well hyped.

It's a game that rips on the car-jacking, crime-filled antics of a Grand Theft Auto sandbox but shoves it through a 1980s-style makeover, cramming in pop-gaming references at every turn.

Take a peek at the trailer for chip tunes, gorilla-mobiles, and homages to a gamut of games from Mario, Paperboy, Zelda and Frogger through to Commando, Smash TV, Pitfall and Bomberman.

In fact, Retro City Rampage is a ten-year project that started life as a hack, an attempt at re-building Grand Theft Auto III as an unlicensed NES game.

Now, RCR comes to PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita via download from October 9, and then WiiWare and Xbox Live Arcade at a later date.
