Bayern Munich's France winger Franck Ribery has been ruled out of Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Schalke 04 after failing to recover from a left thigh injury.

The 29-year-old missed last week's 3-1 win over Mainz but played the first half of the Bavarian side's 2-1 Champions League win over Valencia in Munich midweek before being substituted in order not to take any risks.

Thomas Mueller will fill in for the French player on the left flank with Toni Kroos in midfield and Dutchman Arjen Robben on the right.

Spaniard Javier Martinez, who made his debut for Bayern against Valencia, will start on the bench this time as he is replaced by Brazilian Luiz Gustavo who will form a midfield defensive partnership with Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Bayern are bidding to keep their unbeaten record and return to the top of the Bundesliga ahead of promoted Eintracht Frankfurt who moved into pole position after their 2-1 win at Nuremberg on Friday.
