Road closures for Formula One race

With the Formula One Grand Prix returning to Singapore this week, a series of roads will be closed to traffic around the Marina Centre area from 21 to 27 September 2011 to facilitate the setting up and dismantling of the race infrastructure.

This year, motorists without vehicle passes will be able to enter the Marina Centre area during the road closure period, said the Land Transport Authority in a news release.

They will be able to do so via a single-lane along Nicoll Highway and Raffles Boulevard, which allows access to the car parks of the buildings within the Marina Centre area during ongoing road closures between 10am and 5pm as well as between 10pm and 6am on 21 to 23 September and 26 September.

The roads will also be open from midnight to 1pm on the race weekend of 24 and 25 September.

An alternative route for motorists to avoid the single-lane traffic would be to enter the area via Temasek Boulevard from the ECP slip road to Rochor Road throughout the day.

Nicoll Highway, Esplanade Drive and the stretch from Republic Avenue to Bayfront Avenue will also be open to traffic between 5am and 9:30am

Traffic delays are expected during this period and wardens will be deployed on site to direct traffic and assist the public. LTA strongly encourages the public to take the MRT to either Marina Bay station or Raffles Place station instead.

In addition, due to the fear of ERP gantries interfering with sensitive video transmission equipment used for the race, vehicles going under the following gantries during the specified dates and time will not be charged:

New Bridge Road, South Bridge Road, ECP (eastbound) from Ophir Road – 22 September (Thursday) & 23 September (Friday) between 6pm and 8pm

Temasek Boulevard, Republic Boulevard – 22 September (Thursday) & 23 September (Friday) between 12pm and 8pm. 24 September (Saturday) between 12:30pm and 8pm
