Robert Pattinson ‘struggling with affair admission’

Robert Pattinson will struggle to put Kristen Stewart's cheating scandal behind him as it's "absolutely destroyed" him.

Kristen admitted that she’d been unfaithful with married director Rupert Sanders, issuing a public statement and apology to Robert.

However, sources close to the Twilight hunk claim he won't get over his heartache.

"Rob will not be able to put this behind him. It has absolutely destroyed him," a friend told British magazine Heat. "His love for Kristen is so deep, this has broken his heart - and the fact that it's all happened so publicly is his worst nightmare. She's begged for his forgiveness, but it's not that easy.

"It seems like he won't be able to get over this."

Robert is said to be annoyed that Kristen has made the scandal so public. The actor reportedly feels betrayed by how open she is being about their usually guarded love life.

"He feels that they worked so hard for privacy and secrecy in their relationship and have tried to protect their romance and life together for so long," the source continued. "He's doubly horrified, by the affair and by her bringing this out so publicly."

Robert is believed to be keeping a low-profile by staying at former co-star Reese Witherspoon’s house.

To help him process the betrayal he has been talking to pals and is apparently drowning his sorrows.

"[Robert is] heartbroken and angry, and sources tell the magazine that he's been drinking and relying on friends to deal with the pain," revealed People reporter Carlos Greer.

While many Twilight fans have reacted angrily to the affair, other people are taking a lighter view.

Funnyman Will Ferrell appeared on US talk show Conan this week, and claimed to be devastated by the break-up as he jokingly lashed out at Kristen.

“She cheated on him and they are broken up and they are not going to get back together, ever,” he said holding back fake tears as his voice became increasingly louder. “What they had was a so special, you don’t even know what they had. They were in love and she just threw it all away. I don’t know if there was anything I could have done to prevent it. I don’t know what it means for the Twilight franchise… It’s not going to be fine. Ever… She is a trampire, that’s what she is. A trampire!”
