Algeria's 2001-07 FDI totals $13.5 bln-minister

The value of Arab investment reached 524 billion dinars ($ 8.18 billion) - ALGIERS, May 10 - Algeria had received 866 billion dinars for the 2001-2007 period, 60 percent of which came from Arab countries, a minister said in remarks published on Saturday.

The value of Arab investment reached 524 billion dinars ($ 8.18 billion) compared with 342 billion dinars for non-Arab investors in 2001-2007, Industry and Investment Minister Abdelhamid Temmar was reported by government-run newspaper El Moudjahid as saying.

Egypt, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait were the main investors in Algeria with 136 billion dinars, 76 billion dinars and 38 billion dinars respectively, he added.

Egypt-based Orascom Telecom is the main player in Algeria's mobile phone sector while Orascom Construction Industries OCIC.CA> is present. (Reporting by Hamid Ould Ahmed; editing by David Christian-Edwards)
