European shares up 1.2 pct after U.S. data

Reuters - Friday, August 29

LONDON, Aug 28 - European shares extended gains in afternoon trade on Thursday, after data showed the U.S. economy expanded at a stronger-than-first-reported 3.3 percent annual rate in the second quarter.

At 1242 GMT, the FTSEurofirst 300 index <.FTEU3> of top European shares was up 1.2 percent at 1.187.20 points after falling into negative territory earlier in the session.

Sentiment also got a lift after U.S. data showed that jobless claims fell in the week to August 23.
