Russell Brand’s father Ron is reportedly facing bankruptcy after failing to pay his rent for several months and incurring legal bills.
The 67-year-old is apparently refusing to ask his famous son for help because he doesn’t want to “burden” him.
Britain’s Mirror newspaper reports that Ron is due in court on Tuesday where a judge will decide whether to declare him bankrupt.
Russell, who recently divorced from Katy Perry, has a lucrative stand up and movie career but has had a strained relationship with Ron over the years although they are currently getting on well.
“Ron would never want to burden Russell with his problems and would never dream of asking for money,” a friend told the publication.
“It’s a really stressful situation but Ron is determined to work through his problems.
“Ron’s made a couple of bad investments and has struggled financially as a result. It’s obviously upsetting but he’s confident he can turn things around.”
Ron’s debt allegedly came about through non-payment of rent on a flat in Camden, North London which he left in 2011 and legal fees all coming to around £13,000.
Russell was just six months old when Ron split from his mother Barbara.
