Seoul (The Korea Herald/ANN) - Samsung Electronics recently overtook Apple in consumer preferences in the United States, regardless of the recent US jury verdict in favour of Apple in the patent lawsuit between the two companies.
According to a survey conducted by YouGov and Early Adopter on 5,000 consumers aged between 18 and 34, preference for Samsung Electronics has rapidly increased to surpass that for Apple over the past two weeks.
Over a series of polls by the agencies, the survey showed that Samsung won 45 points on average while Apple saw its preference by consumers stand below 25 points.
In late August, a California federal jury ordered Samsung Electronics to pay the iPhone maker US$1.05 billion in compensation, saying the Korean company infringed on some of Apple's patents for mobile devices.
Meanwhile, a survey showed that more than half of young American consumers have a sceptical view of the verdict.
A US newspaper cited a poll conducted by CouponCodes4U on 2,125 consumers aged between 18 and 30 who said they owned neither an Apple nor Samsung smartphone product.
"About 55 per cent of the respondents said they disagreed with the jury's verdict," it said. "Only 41 per cent said yes (they agreed)."
among those who said they regarded the verdict as unreasonable, 71 per cent said it was "unfair," 53 per cent said it "hindered" creativity and innovation and 21 per cent said it was an example of Apple taking over the world of tech.
