Sassy Mama’s Top 5 Organic Farms in Singapore

We all need to find a little sanctuary from time to time… and what better way to do that than by getting away from the hustle and bustle with a trip to the farm! We’ve explored five organic food farms in Singapore, all located in the quiet of the Kranji Countryside, to help ease your mind with their beautiful surroundings and revive your body with their yummy organic goods… and there’s plenty to keep kids busy too!

AeroGreen

While you won’t be getting your hands stuck into the dirt here mama, you will discover Singapore’s first farm that grows its crops without the use of soil. Confused? AeroGreen uses aeroponic technology (no dirt, but lots of nutrients sprayed on the plant’s roots instead) to grow plants, fruits, and herbs… and many of them you can find in your local NTUC too. Educating the general public about their unique growing methods, Aerogreen has regular farm visits too where you’ll get whisked around the crops and shown how they grow their plants without the use of dirt (they only grow clean, tasty, and healthy foods!). You can even get your hands on organic produce at their small market stand whilst you’re there, mama!

Note: AeroGreen has literally just stopped their farm visits while the property is being renovated — but stay tuned mama, they’ll be reopening again very soon!

Bollywood Veggies

A bit of an institution amongst Singapore mamas, Bollywood Veggies is the place to be if you want to get your hands on fresh and organic vegetables, herbs, and fruits, including uncommon varieties like wintermelon, dill, breadfruit, and butterfruit. Grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and growth hormones, these farmers are probably most well known for the 20+ varieties of bananas they grow each year – and all are sweet, succulent and hand selected by the co-founder too.

Bollywood Veggies also makes a good family field trip with independent and guided tours of the farm, hands-on horticultural programmes, and culinary classes all available for families to enjoy… not to mention the extensive facilities! An on-site bistro, Poison Ivy, outdoor seating areas, a culinary school, and food museum all set against the quaint backdrop of the quiet Kranji countryside make this a truly memorable farm visit.

Green Circle Eco-Farm

Green Circle Farm
Green Circle Farm

Located in the grassy expanse near Kranji Reservoir, Green Circle Eco-Farm takes utmost care to ensure nature is treated with respect. All of their hard working farmers tend to the land without the use of artificial chemicals or pesticides, growing fruits, vegetables and herbs that are organic and delicious. Orders can be placed on their online store for delivery (minimum purchsase $30) or if you have a car and a free afternoon you can drive out to the farm and pick them up yourself. If you’re feeling adventurous in the kitchen you can opt for a mystery “vegetable bag” that contains a surprise selection of handpicked vegetables and fruit that were growing well on that particular day.

These guys even welcome visitors to the farm, with their special programmes for school children allowing little learners to learn first hand about environmental conservation and the effects of organic farming. Kiddos learn first-hand how to appreciate nature, as they see, smell, and feel the plants themselves… all under the tutelage of experienced trainers. If you rather tour the farm as a family, Green Circle is open to the public (you’re just asked not to disturb the farmers while they work!) although some areas are off bounds to unescorted visitors. Just keep an eye on any littlies and you’ll be fine! Of course if you want a bit of guidance, all you need to do is round up 30 of your nearest and dearest and book in a tour.

41 Neo Tiew Road, Singapore 719028
Tel: (+65) 6861 9286
Open: Online store is open 24/7. Deliveries made from 2pm – 10pm. Farm open from sunrise to sundown.

Quan Fa Organic Farm

We realise that sneaking this little beauty into our Top 5 technically pushes us over the limit, but how could we resist when Quan Fa Organic Farm grows such tasty produce? Free of pesticides, nasty chemicals and harmful fertilizers, this family run farm grows fruits, vegetables, and herbs that can be bought onsite at their little farm shop or at any of the regular farmers’ markets they participate in (psst… the next one is on 4th and 5th October — all the details are here!). They even organise regular educational farm tours for families — all you need to do is give them a call to find out when the next one is!

Another gem in the Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve-meets-Kranji countryside pocket, Kin Yan Agrotech is Singapore’s largest organic wheatgrass farm and grower of fresh edible cactuses, aloe vera, mushrooms, and roselle fruits. This cute as a button farm is open to the public too for families who want to wander around and see how organic wheatgrass is actually produced! You can also pick up a select range of fresh produce whilst you’re there, taste their products, or join in on any of their live cooking demos or wheatgrass juicing sessions. They even accommodate school groups who are looking for a bit of life science learning in the great outdoors!

Zenxin Organic Food

While most of us know these guys by their Organic Delivery website in Singapore, their farmers work behind the scenes just over the border in Malaysia at Zenxin Organic Food – and it’s open to the public too! We realise it’s not technically in Singapore but given its offerings for families it does make a nice little detour if you’re heading into Johor anyway. Their “Organic Park” is the largest one in the area and gives kiddos an interesting insight into the organic farming process, through fun and educational activities. Besides their farm tours, they also have a whole swag of other activities little ones can get involved in including fish catching games, pet feeding, and cycling, with shopping at the fresh produce market for the grown ups! You can even sign up for one of their guided One-Day Park Tours or retreat to the Chef Garden Restaurant for a plate of something delicious.

If you just want to get your mitts on some fresh produce without the trek, head to their website where you can order from an array of organic fruit, vegetables, herbs, beverages, condiments, and dried goods or you can opt for a veggie box and get a doorstep surprise instead.
