From 1 September 2013, NSmen will be able to bring camera-equipped mobile phones into 15 more camps. This was announced during the third meeting of the Committee to Strengthen National Service on Friday morning.

In a statement to the media, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) said this is to help NSmen better balance their In-Camp Training (ICT) duties with other commitments. Camera phones, however, can be brought in only to designated Green Zones. These mobile phones cannot be brought into Red Zones, where classified information and equipment are managed.

Previously, MINDEF piloted a programme, which started on 1 September 2012, where camera phones were allowed to be brought into 14 camps.

The 15 additional camps are:
1. Amoy Quee Camp
2. Bukit Panjang Camp
3. Dieppe Barracks
4. Jurong Camp I & III
5. Kaki Bukit Camp
6. Keat Hong Camp
7. Kranji Camp I
